I’ve been working on web conferencing technology since 2001. I did some back-of-the-envelope calculations, and think its safe to say I’ve spent somewhere in the vicinity of 300,000 minutes of my life in a web conferencing meeting. One might assume that, after all that time, the “thrill is gone” and the value of this technology is taken for-granted. Fortunately, I get to spend time with people every day who are just being introduced to the technology, and see the reactions when it sets-in.
As an example: A few nights ago I was able to participate in a training session with one of the organizations we have the privilege of working with. The session included myself in San Francisco, several participants in Washington D.C., and several users in New Delhi and Mumbai. Using nothing but Acrobat Connect Pro, we were able to see and hear each other from thousands of miles away. I could hear the traffic going by in New Delhi (it was morning there), an individual’s cough in Mumbai, and see the smile on their faces when the video started. All from the comfort of my office here in California. No matter how many times I’ve done this, it’s still fun to be able to participate in these experiences!
