As discussed earlier on this blog, we have updated the original MeetingPulse application (based on the AIR betas), so you can try it out now by visiting this link.† This release includes all of the same features of the original version, with a few enhancements as well.† We suggest putting it in your “Startup Folder” on Windows, or setting it to launch on startup on the Mac.† If someone is able to get it working on a Linux desktop as well, please let us know in the comments!
If you were one of the several hundred folks who downloaded and used the MeetingPulse application with Acrobat Connect Pro, then you know it hasn’t worked since the AIR Beta 2 expired.† Unfortunately, as “trailblazers” on the AIR Beta and pre-release programs, we got bitten by some pretty significant changes to the platform between Beta and final release.† However, enough frustrated-email has arrived about MeetingPulse no longer working that we are revisiting the code and porting it to the current AIR release.
We expect to have a preview release available for our customers, as well as a few folks on either on-premise and Adobe-Hosted in the next week or so.† If you are an existing customer, I’ll be following up directly.† If you fall into one of the latter two categories of Acrobat Connect Pro customers, please send an email to michael at this domain, and I’ll add you to the list.
Adobe released AIR 1.0 today, which is exciting news based on the opportunities with MeetingPulse and some additional applications we have in mind.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, many of the APIs we relied on in the early Beta releases ended up changing from release-to-release, so MeetingPulse does not currently work in AIR 1.0. We’ll be updating MeetingPulse in the next few weeks, but before we go and crank open the code, we’d love to hear from you all on what features you’d like to see. Feel free to drop me a line: michael at connectsolutions dot com.

MeetingPulse Support for Adobe AIR Beta 3
We’ve received a few questions about MeetingPulse support for Adobe AIR Beta 3.† As is expected with beta technology, Adobe’s AIR platform went through some pretty significant changes from Beta 2 (which MeetingPulse was last updated for), and Beta 3.† Unfortunately, several of the AIR APIs that were used in MeetingPulse were changed from Beta 2 to Beta 3, so this migration will require more than a simple recompile.† We do not have an immediate date set for this update, so please consider the following:
- According to Adobe AIR Beta 3 Release Notes ( http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/AIR:Release_Notes ), you can run Beta 2 and Beta 3 on the same computer
- Based on this, we suggest maintaining your Beta 2 install, along with the latest Beta 3 until we’ve had a chance to update MeetingPulse.
The markets outside of North America make up about 30% of the annual investments in web conferencing technology, according to a variety of analysts.† Based on the past two days of MeetingPulse registrations, it’s safe to say we just had most of that 30% download and register MeetingPulse.† A large number of Acrobat Connect Professional users have registered for MeetingPulse from Australia and New Zealand, so greetings and we hope you are enjoying the application.
With these registrations, we’ve blown past 150 registered users of MeetingPulse in just a few weeks of this beta.† Please keep the suggestions coming as we continue to iterate…
A special thanks goes out to Kevan Williams over at University of Central Lancashire (http://uclan.ac.uk), who is an active MeetingPulse user and source of a number of great enhancements, including this helpful tip!
MeetingPulse was designed to provide desktop-access to Adobe Acrobat Connect Professional, enabling meeting monitoring and immediate access to meetings, content, administration, etcÖ The application succeeds in these objectives, but thereís one obstacle: you have to remember to run the application!
Thereís a very easy way to ensure MeetingPulse is always running. You simply need to add a MeetingPulse shortcut to your ìstartupî folder in Windows (usually found at: C:\Documents and Settings\(user)\Start Menu\Programs\Startup) or add a ìLogin Itemsî entry for your Mac (under System Preferences). Once youíve done this, MeetingPulse will launch each time you login to your computer. If youíve also selected the ìauto-loginî feature in MeetingPulse, than the application takes care of the rest for you.
